Biogenic CO2

Biogenic CO₂ sampler CO2-C14G2 for precise ISO 13833:2013 sampling. METLAB offers full-service support from measurement to clear reporting.

Biogenic CO2 determination

METLAB introduces the next-generation Biogenic CO2 sampler, model C14G2, designed according to ISO 13833:2013. Built on over a decade of experience, it provides precise, reliable flow-proportional CO2 sampling in liquid absorbents. Ideal for continuous operation at waste incineration plants as well as portable use in emissions laboratories.

Key highlights include:

  • Reliable performance – long-term dependability even under variable gas flows and long sampling periods
  • Seamless integration – analogue I/O signals for easy control and monitoring of gas flow and O2 levels
  • Intuitive operation – 5.7″ touch display reduces training needs
  • Compact and versatile – wall-mount or tabletop, permanent or portable
  • Safety first – bottles secured in locked stands within stainless-steel cabinet

Measurement & Reporting – A Complete Service Package

With METLAB’s Biogenic CO2 solution you can get a full-service package where our experts support you through every step of the process:

  • Absorbent preparation – we supply ready-to-use NaOH absorbent bottles, prepared under controlled conditions to ensure reliability
  • CO2 sampling – our C14G2 sampler performs proportional sampling with precision, even under variable flow conditions
  • Logistics and handling – once sampling is complete, we collect the bottles and handle secure transport
  • Sample analysis – accredited laboratory carry out radiocarbon (C14) analysis, providing validated results
  • Clear reporting – you receive a transparent report including the proportion of biogenic and fossil CO2, QC evaluation, and easy-to-read performance charts

This complete service means you can rely on accurate and audit-ready results — we take care of the entire chain from measurement to final report.

Advantages of the C14G2 sampler

The C14G2 is a third-generation sampler refined through more than ten years of accredited field use. Every design choice exists because of something seen on a real stack:

  • Proven track record – third-generation sampler developed from more than 10 years of accredited laboratory use and field experience, with continuous improvements based on lessons learned.
  • Liquid absorbent system – ensures uniform gas contact and eliminates channeling or uneven saturation seen in solid media. Easy and safe sample exchange with minimal training.
  • O2 monitoring downstream of the absorbent – real-time leak detection prevents invalid sampling periods. Equipped with a long-life ZrO2 sensor.
  • Proportional sampling – directly linked to the CEMS flow system (4–20 mA) for true proportionality. No separate pitot tube required, eliminating clogging risks and reducing maintenance.
  • Full remote control – all operational parameters accessible from the control room for simple and reliable operation.
  • Compact and lightweight design – only 510 × 510 × 320 mm and 20 kg total weight. Ideal for wall-mounting, conserving valuable floor space and minimising installation effort and logistics costs.

Proven in the field – proportionality and leak integrity

A defensible biogenic CO2 result rests on two things: that the sample remained truly flow-proportional through every fluctuation of the plant, and that no air ingress contaminated the absorbent. The charts below are taken from a real METLAB sampling report at a Waste-to-Energy installation, covering one month of the C14G2 running against the plant’s CEMS.

Time-series chart showing the CO2-C14G2 sample flow tracking the flue gas flow across a one-month sampling campaign at a Waste-to-Energy plant
Proportionality – sample flow tracks flue gas flow across the campaign. Even under variable stack conditions the sample remains a true reflection of the plant’s actual emissions.
Time-series chart showing the CO2-C14G2 sampler O2 closely tracking the stack CEMS O2 across a one-month campaign, with no divergence visible
Leak integrity – sampler O2 tracks the stack CEMS O2 throughout the campaign. Any divergence flags an air leak in real time, hours after onset rather than weeks later when the lab report arrives.
