Why calibrate the pitot tube?
- S-type pitot tubes have no standard coefficient. The coefficient depends on the tube's shape and manufacture and is determined by calibration. Without it, the flow comes out wrong.
- Accredited measurements require it. If you measure gas flow according to EN ISO 16911-1 or as part of an accredited emission measurement, the pitot tube needs a traceable calibration, and many require an accredited certificate.
- Tubes change. Wear, deposits and small damage to the head change the coefficient. A new calibration shows whether the tube still measures correctly.
- Permanently installed flow meters. A pitot tube in a fixed installation, for example with FlowGuard 100, gives the right flow only with the right coefficient.
How the calibration is done
Request a quote
Tell us how many pitot tubes, their type and length, and at which velocities you want them calibrated. We confirm the price and turnaround time.
Send it in
Pack the pitot tube so that the head is protected and send it to us in Enköping, with your company name and a contact person.
Calibration
The pitot tube is compared with our reference at each velocity in the range 5–35 m/s, according to our accredited method.
Certificate and return
You receive an accredited calibration certificate with the coefficient and measurement uncertainty at each velocity, and the pitot tube is sent back.
Scope of accreditation
Our scope of accreditation from Swedac according to ISO/IEC 17025 lists the calibration as follows:
| Quantity | Range | Measurement uncertainty | Method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gas velocity with pitot tubes | 5–35 m/s | ±1.1 % | C10 |

Frequently asked questions about pitot tube calibration
Do you calibrate pitot tubes from other manufacturers?
Yes. We calibrate S-type and L-type pitot tubes from any manufacturer.
What does the certificate contain?
The pitot tube's coefficient at each calibrated velocity with its measurement uncertainty, and details of the method and traceability. The certificate is issued under our Swedac accreditation.
How often should a pitot tube be calibrated?
That depends on how much the tube is used and in what environment, and on the requirements in your quality manual or your environmental permit. Check the tube for damage, and recalibrate when the coefficient may have changed.
Can you calibrate at velocities other than 5–35 m/s?
The accreditation covers 5–35 m/s. You choose which velocities in that range are calibrated. Get in touch if you need something outside it.
Can the manometer be calibrated at the same time?
Yes. Tell us which manometer it is and we will include it in the quote.
